Oral-B Vitality Review

Oral-B Vitality

Editor’s Note

Update winter 2019: Since original publication, Oral-B have updated the Vitality.

This review has been updated to reflect our thoughts on the ‘newer’ 2019 model.

The differences compared to the previous model of the same name, are relatively subtle.

We have included information on the differences, along with images of the older model, in the ‘Variants of this brush‘ section of the review.

Some retailers still stock the older model, so we wish for you to be aware of the differences.

Our Verdict

A good choice if you are on a budget.

The Oral-B Vitality will provide benefits over a manual toothbrush.

However, spending a little extra and buying the Oral-B Pro 1000 is beneficial for the improved cleaning action, slimmer handle, battery status light and timer with 30 second pacer.

Pros

  • 1 cleaning mode
  • Built-in timer
  • A small round brush head
  • Grip on handle

Cons

  • Battery life/status
  • No 30 second pacer built-in
  • Better value options exist (see other choices)

Oral-B Pro 500 Review

Editor’s Note

Update winter 2019: Since original publication, Oral-B have updated the Pro 500.

This review has been updated to reflect our thoughts on the ‘newer’ 2019 model.

We have included information on the differences, along with images of the older model, in the ‘Variants of this brush‘ section of the review.

Some retailers still stock the older model, so we wish for you to be aware of the differences.

Our Verdict

The Pro 500 is a functional electric toothbrush that sells for a pretty reasonable price.

It cleans the teeth well and the built-in 2 minute timer is a great feature as it helps you brush for the dentist recommended 2 minutes.

The 8 day battery life is satisfactory, if not as good as the competition

AquaSonic Vibe Series Review

AquaSonic Vibe Series Toothbrush

Our Verdict

Excellent value is what the AquaSonic Vibe series electric toothbrush offers.

It has the features and performance of premium brands like Sonicare at a fraction of the price.

For those that want a lot for their money, this is it.

However, there are some sacrifices for the low price.

The quality is satisfactory, but not great.

The warranty is just 1 year.

Color matching brush heads are not available.

Pros

  • Color options
  • Multiple cleaning modes
  • Dedicated cleaning mode button
  • Built-in timer
  • Battery life
  • Box contents
  • Value for money

Cons

  • Quality of materials

Oral-B Genius 9600 Review

Oral-B Genius 9600 Review

Our Verdict

The Genius 9600 is a brilliant electric toothbrush.

It delivers everything you need and more.

The Bluetooth connectivity and travel case are appealing features, although neither are perfect.

Seriously consider the Genius X, which is essentially the same brush with a fairly significant improvement.

Pros

  • Multiple cleaning modes
  • Built in timer
  • Pressure sensor to alert you when you are brushing to hard
  • Bluetooth connectivity for pairing to smartphone app to track cleaning
  • Premium travel case with in case charging
  • Brush handle available in a range of colors

Cons

  • Bluetooth connectivity not for everybody
  • Position detection system is unreliable
  • Smartphone mount is not going to look great in a bathroom
  • Only 5 icons on the brush handle for the 6 cleaning modes
  • Better value options exist (see other choices)

Philips Sonicare ExpertClean Review

Philips Sonicare ExpertClean

Our Verdict

The Sonicare ExpertClean is an excellent electric toothbrush.

There are many desirable features.  The brush head replacement reminder system and the in-case charging are just 2 of many that this brush others.

The ExpertClean, unfortunately, falls a fraction short on the Bluetooth functionality, in my opinion.  It does not offer true real-time tracking as other Sonicare models do.

The likes of the DiamondClean Smart from Sonicare and Oral-B Genius X are arguably more rounded products, even if more expensive.

Pros

  • Design and materials
  • Multiple cleaning modes
  • Built-in timer and pacer
  • Built-in pressure sensor
  • Brush head replacement reminder system
  • Battery life
  • Charging travel case

Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 Review

Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 Review

Our Verdict

The Pro 8000 is a superb electric toothbrush.

It cleans the teeth very well.

The smartphone app and position detecting technology is very clever but can feel like a bit of a hassle to use properly.

The brush offers a lot more than you need, but many features that encourage you to take better care of your oral health.

Pros

  • Multiple cleaning modes
  • Built-in timer
  • Pressure sensor to alert you when you are brushing too hard
  • Bluetooth connectivity for pairing to smartphone app to track cleaning
  • Premium travel case with in case charging
  • Brush head storage compartment

Oral-B Genius X Review

Oral-B Genius X

Our Verdict

The Oral-B Genius X is an extremely good electric toothbrush.

It cleans the teeth really well and is one of the smartest and best brushes on the market today

It demonstrates how technology can help you achieve the best oral health care standards.

It is not perfect though. The graphics in the smartphone application could be improved to enhance the way that it educates you about the areas of the teeth you have and have not brushed.

The Genius X lacks the finer details and quality that comes with the likes of the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart.

It gets my vote of confidence for sure, but in reality, it is a more feature rich and expensive toothbrush than you necessarily need.  There are cheaper brushes that clean the teeth just as well.

If you do want feature rich, then all things considered, the DiamondClean Smart, is in my opinion, the better buy.

Pros

  • Cleaning action
  • Built-in timer and pacer
  • Pressure sensor
  • Design
  • Bluetooth & AI technology

Cons

  • Box contents
  • Travel case
  • Cleaning mode icons
  • Bluetooth & AI technology
  • Expensive (other options exist)

Oral-B Pro-Health Clinical Battery Toothbrush Review

Our Verdict

A basic and functional electric toothbrush powered by removable AA batteries.

It is a solid option given the lack of competition and for some will be an ideal solution.

The power and cleaning action delivered is better than a manual brush, however, it lacks some desireable elements that slightly more premium electric toothbrushes offer.

Pros

  • 1 cleaning mode
  • Long battery life
  • Small round brush head
  • Low price

Cons

  • No timer
  • Stiff battery cover
  • Long term cost

Fairywill FW-917 Review

Editor’s Note

October 2019: The FW-917 covered in this review, has been discontinued by Fairywill.  The company still offer a range of great value toothbrushes.  The FW-507 (view on Amazon) is the logical replacement within the Fairywill range. We do strongly advise considering the Sonicare ProtectiveClean 4100.

Please be aware this review looks at just one electric toothbrush from Fairywill.

They do have a number of other models, that offer different cleaning modes, features and box contents. At this time we have not completed separate reviews of these other models.

There are similarities across these models, but the naming convention for these brushes is complicated, to be sure to take care in picking the right one for you.

Whilst we have yet to review all the models independently, by reading this review you may pick up some information and insight that might apply to those other models and allow you to make a more informed purchasing decision.

You can view the Fairywill range here on Amazon.

Our Verdict

If you are not bothered about the brand and want something cheap yet incredibly functional then the Fairywill FW-917 will serve you really well indeed.

As value for money goes the Fairywill have this pretty tied up.  I can’t deny that you get a lot for your money.

Pros

  • Slim and lightweight
  • 3 cleaning modes
  • Built-in timer and pacer
  • Up to a month’s battery life
  • Box contents is good

Cons

  • Feels a little cheap
  • As a new and unknown brand reliability and support concerns

Liaboe V5731 Review

Liaboe V5731 Review

Our Verdict

There is no denying that the Liaboe V5731 is a good value electric toothbrush. It performs well and offers a good clean.

The material quality is not necessarily as good as it can be and whilst its a more than a satisfactory product, you need not spend much more to get a brush from a leading brand, that might give you a little extra peace of mind.

Pros

  • 3 cleaning modes
  • Built-in timer
  • Automatic power off

AquaSonic Black Series Review

AqauSonic Black Series Toothbrush Review

Our Verdict

You simply cannot argue with the box contents and initial value for money that you get from the AquaSonic black series ultra sonic toothbrush.

It cleans the teeth fairly well and has the essential features I would expect of any good electric toothbrush.

Unfortunately, what ultimately lets this brush down is the long term support.

After 2 years, you could be disposing of it, because there are no replacement brush heads available and there seems to be a distinct lack of warranty support from the manufacturer.

Pros

  • Multiple cleaning modes
  • Dedicated cleaning mode button
  • Built-in timer
  • Battery life
  • Box contents
  • Value for money

Cons

  • Quality of materials

Philips Sonicare PowerUp Review

Our Verdict

If you want a toothbrush powered by user removable AA batteries as opposed to a built-in rechargeable battery, you could do worse than the Sonicare PowerUp.

The clean is good, better than a manual toothbrush and a 2 minute timer with automatic power off is built in.

Waterpik Sonic-Fusion Review - Header Image

Our Verdict

Conceptually, I like the idea of the Sonic-Fusion.

In reality, I am a bit disappointed. It has failed to wow me.

The toothbrush is satisfactory. It cleans the teeth, but it makes an irritating noise. The battery life is poor.

You are much better off buying a separate electric toothbrush and water flosser.

Pros

  • Stylish design
  • Toothbrush and water flosser
  • Built-in timer
  • 10 pressure settings
  • American Dental Association approved

Philips Sonicare Flexcare Platinum Connected Review

Our Verdict

Subject to what price you can actually find this model for, it is likely that Sonicare DiamondClean Smart is the ‘better value’ purchase.

However, do not let price be the overriding factor in the decision making process.  The FlexCare Platinum Connected deserves much praise for delivering a connected brushing experience in the way that it does.

It might not be the best looking brush, but simple practicalities make this brush a real winner in everyday use.

Foreo ISSA 2 Review

Our Verdict

A refreshing take on the electric toothbrush.

The silicone bristles can offer a more gentle brushing experience in comparison to the traditional nylon we are used to.

The battery life if simply staggering at 1 year.

However, as good as this is, the high price tag is hard to justify against the cheaper, and more tried and tested alternatives.

Pros

  • Ergonomic and unique design
  • Made from silicone
  • 16 adjustable intensity settings
  • Up to 1 years battery life

Cons

  • Expensive compared to a similarly featured brush
  • The design will not be for everyone
  • Unique design

Oral-B Pro 3000 Review

Oral-B Pro 3000 Review

Our Verdict

The Pro 3000 is a great electric toothbrush.

It is one of the best value options to include Bluetooth and there is little to criticize here. You could opt for worse toothbrushes.

However, for those who want a simpler, Bluetooth free brush, then the Pro 1000 is a better buy, whilst the Pro 6000 is a better packaged product for those wanting a little more.

Pros

  • 3 cleaning modes
  • Built-in timer
  • Slim handle
  • Built-in pressure sensor to alert you when brushing too hard
  • Brush head storage compartment
  • Bluetooth connectivity for pairing with smartphone app for tracking cleaning

Colgate Connect E1 Review

Colgate Connect E1 Review

Our Verdict

Smart toothbrushes are very much a thing and this is Colgate’s answer.

Sadly, the E1 is not representative of the standards I would expect of a reputable brand.

Conceptually this is the future, sadly in practice, this is a step back.

Much of what I feel is lacking I do believe can be resolved with a bit of extra work on the software, it really will not take all that much, but until that time, better options exist.

Pros

  • 1 cleaning mode
  • Small brush head
  • Slim & lightweight design
  • 2 week battery life
  • Smartphone app for tracking cleaning performance
  • Multiple use profiles in app

Cons

  • Buggy & unreliable app
  • Poor brush head availability
  • No pressure sensor to alert you when brushing too hard

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Review

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Review

Editor’s Note

Since this review was first published, Sonicare has launched the DiamondClean Classic, which we explain in more detail in this section.

Our Verdict

This is an excellent toothbrush.

However, the DiamondClean does lack when it comes to connectivity options that Oral-B’s equivalent offers, for a lesser price.

But, Sonicare have a new model out, the DiamondClean Smart that addresses this lack of connectivity and builds the charging cable into the case rather than it being detachable.

Based on the current pricing, a few extra dollars spent on the newer DiamondClean Smart 9500 model is well worth it, trust me on that.

Pros

  • Design
  • 5 cleaning modes
  • BUilt in timer
  • Long battery life
  • Travel case

Cons

  • No pressure sensor to alert you when brushing to hard
  • No Bluetooth connectivity
  • Better value options exist (see other choices)

Oral-B Pro 6000/6500 Review

Editor’s Note

In this review, I mainly reference the Pro 6000, but I have also included 6500 in the title because the two brushes are very similar — the only difference is that the 6500 comes with an additional brush head in the box.

Our Verdict

An extremely solid mid-range electric toothbrush.

Ideally suited to those who want something more than the basic, particularly if you want to track your cleaning performance via a smartphone app.

It doesn’t offer the absolute best box contents, but it offers more than what you need at a fairly competitive price point.

Pros

  • Multiple cleaning modes
  • Built-in timer
  • Pressure sensor to alert you when brushing too hard
  • Bluetooth connectivity for pairing to smartphone app for tracking cleaning

Cons

  • Bluetooth connectivity will not be for everybody
  • Design – only 4 icons for the 5 cleaning modes available
  • Battery life

Oral-B Pro 1000 Review

A brilliant electric toothbrush.

It offers all of the essential features required in a slim and comfortable to use handle.

The cleaning performance is great and ideal for new or experienced electric toothbrush users.

The 1 week battery life is its biggest weakness.

Pros

  • Slim and lightweight
  • A small round brush head

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart Review

Our Verdict

If there is such a thing as perfect, the DiamondClean Smart is the closest thing to it in the electric toothbrush world.

This is the best toothbrush I have ever used.

Pros

  • Multiple cleaning modes
  • Built-in timer
  • Design and materials
  • Built-in pressure sensor to alert you when brushing too hard
  • Long battery life

Xiaomi Mi Electric Toothbrush Review

Xiaomi Mi Electric Toothbrush Review - Header Image

Our Verdict

The Mi electric toothbrush is far from a bad toothbrush and is certainly not bad value.

But, it isn’t as great.

Having spent several weeks testing it, I prefer the alternatives.

The Bluetooth connectivity and data transfer can be buggy and the data received from the brush isn’t all that useful.

It also lacks some of the added value that I have come to expect of the far eastern brands, that often challenge the dominant brands.

Pros

  • Minimalist design
  • Good cleaning action
  • Bluetooth connectivity for pairing to smartphone
  • Cleaning mode customization via an app

Cons

  • Not easy to tell which cleaning mode is selected
  • App and tracking data are not great
  • Battery life worse than expected
  • Better options exist (see other choices)

Oral-B Pro 7000 Review

Oral-B Pro 7000 Review

Editor’s Note

The Oral-B Pro 7000 is still a current model being sold by major retailers, but it has technically been replaced with the Oral-B Genius Pro 8000.

The Pro 8000 offers a refreshed design, improved battery life and features.

You can find out more about it and what we think of it by viewing our Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 review.

Our Verdict

The Oral-B Pro 7000 is a solid electric toothbrush.

It ticks a number of boxes and is certainly more than you ‘need’.

You could do a lot worse than the 7000, but subject to the price at the time of purchase, pay serious attention to the Genius Pro 8000 as this may well be the better deal.

Pros

  • 6 cleaning modes
  • Built-in timer
  • Pressure sensor to alert you when brushing too hard
  • Bluetooth connectivity for pairing to smartphone app for tracking cleaning

Philips Sonicare FlexCare+ Review

Our Verdict

It works, but the FlexCare+ does little in my mind to stand out from the crowd of electric toothbrushes on the market and scream buy me!

It lacks a certain wow factor, but perhaps in doing so, it’s understated nature is actually a good thing.

The Sonicare ProtectiveClean is a better buy.

Pros

  • Multiple cleaning modes
  • Built-in timer
  • Long battery life
  • Brush head storage

Cons

  • No pressure sensor to alert you when brushing to hard

Philips Sonicare HealthyWhite+ (Series 5) Review

Our Verdict

This Sonicare HealthyWhite+ toothbrush far exceeds what the vast majority of us need of an electric toothbrush, but manages also to answer the needs of those who want something a little bit extra.

The clean provided by the brush is superb, it is difficult to fault, especially when you have control over just how much power the brush actually delivers.

Pros

  • 2 cleaning modes
  • Different cleaning intensities
  • Built-in timer
  • Long battery life

Cons

  • No pressure sensor to alert you when brushing to hard
  • Box contents

Philips Sonicare 3 Series Review

Our Verdict

Great, excellent, superb, spot on and terrific are all words I can use to describe this toothbrush.  It has the basic electric toothbrush needs covered and then some.

Clean teeth and a fresh healthy mouth are a guaranteed result of regular use of this brush.

All positive, but the Sonicare ProtectiveClean 4100 is a better buy in today’s market in most instances.

  • 1 cleaning mode
  • Built-in timer
  • Travel case included

  • No pressure sensor to alert you when brushing to hard
