Philips Sonicare has announced the NEXT GENERATION DiamondClean 9900 Prestige.

The new 2026 version of the Prestige is due to launch this September and will be available in at least 4 colours.

It will be priced at $379.99 / £599.99.

This is a major update to the existing Sonicare DiamondClean 9900 Prestige model. We went to an advanced press preview for the new brush in June and have been testing it ever since.

You can see our initial impressions video above — we expect to publish a full review in around 6 to 8 weeks. We will also publish comparisons with similar models.

New touchscreen

The main features in the new version are the touch screen and the advanced light ring.

When using the original Prestige, users were forced to use the app to see brushing feedback and to change cleaning modes.

Sonicare has done away with this for the new Prestige. A graphic on the screen now shows segments of the mouth that still need attention.

The screen is also used to change the type of feedback you receive — coverage, pressure or scrubbing detection — and cleaning modes and intensity settings.

Overall, the experience of using the screen works well. It requires a firm touch, but it works when wet and is easy to navigate.

Advanced light ring

The light ring from the previous 9900 Prestige has been upgraded and is used to provide feedback as you brush.

It now illuminates green to show when you are using correct pressure, purple when you are not using enough pressure, or it flashes purple when you are using too much pressure.

When the brush is in scrubbing feedback mode it illuminates red if it detects you are scrubbing the teeth.

Other changes

You can watch the video above to learn about the other changes in detail, but here are the main ones at a glance:

  • An additional cleaning mode has been added — there are now 8 in total.
  • Battery life is around 2 weeks — this is on the low side but to be expected given the smart features
  • Noise has been reduced to 55dB. This is a drop of about 15dB compared to the previous Prestige
  • The charging glass from previous DiamondClean models returns. This is a nice way to charge the brush
  • The charging travel case now uses a proprietary cable again rather than USB-C. This feels like a downgrade
  • The battery is now user-repableable. This is great for extending the lifetime of the brush
