Goby vs Quip vs Burst

Goby vs Quip vs Burst 1

Introduction

Philips Sonicare and Braun Oral-B might well be the leading brands in the electric toothbrush market, but in recent years there has been a rapid emergence of new companies offering similar products with potential benefits for you and me.

Goby, Quip and Burst Oral Care are three of the most popular new brands.

Their big differentiator to the likes of Oral-B and Sonicare is that these brushes are sold on a subscription model

Think of them like the Netflix, Amazon Prime or Spotify of the electric toothbrush market.

Where once you were expected to go out and buy replacement brush heads when you needed them, now they are delivered to you at regular intervals when the head should ideally be replaced.

Each of these brands is grabbing media attention and vying for your custom, but which brand and brush should you go for and why?

All have their pros and cons and one may appeal to you more than another.

In this guide, I present as much information as possible for you to become better informed on which brand is more suited to you and why.

Burst Oral Care vs Sonicare & Oral-B

Burst vs sonicare & oral-b header image

Introduction

If you ask someone to name a brand of electric toothbrush, there is a good chance they are going to mention Sonicare or Oral-B.

As leaders within the market of electric toothbrushes, this is no surprise.

Backed by the large multinational companies that are Philips and Procter & Gamble (parent company of Braun) these brands can afford shelf space in grocery stores as well as having the funds to pay for TV and other national advertising campaigns that aid their growth and market share.

Both companies produce excellent toothbrushes, but there is an emerging group of new electric toothbrushes from smaller, more dynamic and innovative companies.

Burst is one of the socially active brands and has gained a lot of media attention.

A US company, Burst are trying to bring a fresh approach to oral healthcare.

The big questions are though, does Burst deserve your money and can it compare with these big brands?

In this article, I will be making a comparison between Burst, Philips Sonicare and Braun Oral-B, to help you understand which brand you should ultimately opt for.

Best Toothbrush Subscription 2020

best toothbrush subscription

The subscription model is by no means new, for many years people have subscribed to the likes of magazines, clubs or perhaps services associated with their bank.

However, over recent years the model has been rolled out to more and more products and services and is becoming a more popular and convenient approach for some consumers.

Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Spotify are just a few popular examples.

More recently, the humble toothbrush market has been disrupted by brands offering subscription brush heads or toothbrushes, delivered right to your door.

Whilst, for the most part, the principle behind these is the convenience, they do also have a knock-on effect, causing the likes of you and me to consider our oral health more seriously.

I will go into more detail below about how the various subscription clubs and services work, but first I’ll jump straight in with the question many of you are probably asking…

Quip Toothbrush Review

Quip Toothbrush Review 21

Editor’s Note

We have covered the kids version of this brush in our Quip kids toothbrush review.

Our Verdict

Quip offers a level of convenience that many today demand.

No longer do you need to remember when to change the brush head, a new one will just turn up.

Slim, stylish and functional, Quip is particularly good for travelers, thanks to the innovate case come toothbrush holder.

As a seasoned electric toothbrush user, the motor feels weak, the clean no better that a manual brush and certainly not as invigorating as deep cleaning as other electric brushes I have used.

Pros

  • Slim and lightweight
  • 1 cleaning mode
  • Built-in timer
  • Removable batteries
  • Travel case double up as a wall mount
  • Subscription service
  • American Dental Association approved

Cons

  • Cleaning experience feels weak in comparison other brushes
  • No battery status/feedback
  • No pressure sensor

Boie Toothbrush Review

Boie Toothbrush Review

Our Verdict

With a brushing experience similar to that of a manual toothbrush, there isn’t much not to like here.

However, I am not sure if the bristles and brush head construction is as effective as a regular toothbrush.

Credit for the innovative design, but it needs millions to purchase this to make the impact Boie hope for.

Pros

  • Design – Slim in the hand and lightweight too.
  • Brush heads – Change less frequently and less abrasive on the teeth and gums.
  • BPA free
  • Subscription – A useful option for some for regular brush head delivery.
  • Packaging – Simple and environmentally friendly.

Cons

  • Design – The flat profile is a little odd in hand and not necessarily as strong.
  • Brush head – It is larger than most other brushes I have used.  Bristles flex a lot and not sure how well they will retain their structure.
  • Concept – Great concept but needs millions to adopt to have an impact.
  • Comparison to others – lack of detail in the Boie FAQ about how the recycling of this brush compares to mainstream brushes.

Goby vs Sonicare & Oral-B

Goby vs Sonicare & Oral-B

Introduction

When buying an electric toothbrush, you can rarely go too far wrong if you were to pick up a Sonicare or Oral-B model for yourself.

However, there are a number of new challengers that are taking on these well-known brands by delivering slightly different products and supporting services.

US company Goby is just one example.

There are many appealing elements to Goby’s offering, but should you put your trust and hand your cash over to them, rather than very reputable Sonicare and Oral-B?

In this article, I will be making a comparison between Goby, Philips Sonicare and Braun Oral-B to help you understand which brand you should ultimately opt for.

I’ll jump straight in with my overall verdict, then explain in detail how I got there.

Electric Teeth Verdict

Fundamentally what separates Goby from the other brands is their subscription model. It is fair to say that they are more closely aligned to Quip and Burst. In fact, Goby is in my eyes the best subscription toothbrush you can buy right now.

Ignore the subscription model and Oral-B’s brushes are the best alternative.
