Our Top 5 Picks For Best Manual Toothbrush Holder
In no particular order of rating, here are 5 great manual toothbrush holders for you to consider.
1. iLifeTech Hands Free Toothpaste Squeezer and Holder
|iLifeTech Hands Free Toothpaste Dispenser Automatic Toothpaste Squeezer and Holder Set (5 Brush...||506 Reviews||$15.00 $11.99||View on Amazon|
A complete kit for your toothbrush and toothpaste, this package includes a toothpaste squeezer, so that you can dispense a small amount onto your brush head, without having to squeeze the tube yourself (view on Amazon).
The design of the dispenser, does mean the tube tends to stick out of the top, so it is not the prettiest solution, but functional. The front cover pulls off when you need to replace the tube and small magnets hold the front cover in place.
The dispenser relies on gravity which means there may still be some paste left in the tube towards the end, because there is nothing to squeeze the paste out.
A small amount is stored within the dispensers pump, so if you change tubes of paste, you might get a small mix of the last paste and the new one, unless you clean it out.
To the toothbrush holder then.
With a wall mounted design brushes and the toothpaste can be lifted off a worktop and shelf surfaces to free up space and offer a neater organization option.
Capable of holding up to 5 manual toothbrushes, each brush rests just under the head, on the moulded plastic body of the holder. The neck and brush handle then dangle below.
A plastic opens and closes over the brushes within, protecting them from any dirt, dust and debris that they could be exposed to.
Although covered, it is not air tight, so the brush heads can dry out and do not suffer from being kept in damp and bacteria friendly environment.
Provided in with the holder is adhesive tape, so that you can stick the holder to an appropriate surface in your bathroom. I suggest a nice flat surface like tiles or a mirror.
Whilst it is fairly strong and I have not had it come unstuck, I do wonder if over time it may loosen. Adults are going to be fairly gentle, but kids might be a bit more forceful and may put unnecessary pressure or strain on the adhesive.
This is a cost effective option and in some respects you do get what you pay for here. It is certainly functional and good value, but the quality is reflective of the price.
2. Bolica Cartoon Animal Suction Cup Toothbrush Holder (6 pack)
|BOLICA Toothbrush Holder,Cute Cartoon Animal Toothbrush Holder With Suction Cup,Kids Toothbrush...||36 Reviews||$8.99 $6.99||View on Amazon|
Whilst there is absolutely no reason adults cannot enjoy these holders, you can tell that the animal faces that adorn these holders will work well for children (view on Amazon).
The bright colors and cartoon look is engaging and makes tooth brushing that little bit more fun.
Each pack comes with 6 brush holders in them.
Whilst that is more than most families will need, the design means that you can likely hang other lightweight items on them if you desired, maybe a small hand towel or similar.
Every holder has a different character on it.
2 small legs/arms extend to offer a place into which the toothbrush can sit.
Holding the brush at the base of the head, the neck and handle of the toothbrush will hang freely below.
There is no protection to the heads themselves, they remain exposed to the air and to bacteria and splashes. However if mounted up and away from the sink etc they should remain dry whilst offering a neat storage option.
There is a suction cup on the back, so ideally these need to be mounted onto a smooth surface. An mirror is ideal, but tiles will work too.
Fitted with a suction cup, it does mean that they are easy to move about and there is no adhesive tape required.
3. Suction Toothbrush Holder, Chrome, by Interdesign
|InterDesign Suction Toothbrush Holder for Bathroom Mirror, Shower - Polished Chrome||685 Reviews||$9.29||View on Amazon|
A simple and effective holder, this chrome plated holder can hold up to 4 manual toothbrushes (view on Amazon).
The chromed bar measures 11 x 1 x 1 cm and has a suction cup attached at each end.
These cups can be securely fastened to a flat surface like a tiled wall, mirror or even a window. A painted wall or uneven tile surfaces will usually not allow this holders suction cups to securely stick and hold in place.
Whilst some may prefer an adhesive tape or even screws for fitting, the suction cup design means it is nice and simple to move if required and is not a permanent solution.
It looks quite smart and unobtrusive in the bathroom, whilst providing a home for 4 brushes.
Just like most other holders, the toothbrushes are held at the base of the brush head with the handle dangling below.
There is no cover or anything to stop the bristles getting splashed, but mount of the ‘splash zone’ and all should be fine.
As you can see, the design means that excess moisture can drip off the brush heads and air can dry them, helping to prevent bacteria buildup.
The spacing on the holder is just so, that when 4 brushes are mounted, none should make contact with each other, aiding with hygiene.
The criticism with this holder is that is that I felt some other holders actually held the brush heads a bit more securely, it wouldn’t take too much to knock them out of place.
4. K ONE Polished Stainless Steel Wall Mounted Toothbrush Holder
|K.ONE Toothbrush Holder Wall Mount 3M Self-Adhesive for Medicine Cabinet Mirror, Bathroom Cabinet,...||155 Reviews||$10.99||View on Amazon|
A very sturdy, somewhat industrial looking solution holder, it can provide a home for up to 3 items.
Toothbrushes are ideal, but you might find that even items like razors can be stored neatly on the wall with this (view on Amazon).
Made from 95% 304 stainless steel, the polished surfaced is finished with brushed Nickel.
Measuring 5.5 inches wide and 4.5 inches wide the flat back of the holder comes with 2 strips of 3M adhesive tape.
For a strong mounting, attached to a smooth and flat surface like glass, a tiled wall or similar.
The 3 openings should accomodate most manual toothbrushes, including those with rubberised grips on them.
Waterproof and rust resistant, this holder will survive years of use.
The solid feel and weight of the holder is reassuring and there is certainly no cheap plastic here.
The front of the holder curves for design effect and to hold the brushes in place. At the bottom is a flat edge that the base of the brush handle rests on.
Unlike some other holders, the brush is not held in place by being hung from under the brush head.
Easy to pop a brush in and out of the holder, there is no cover over the brush so the moisture can easily dry off it.
5. HBlife Stainless Steel Toothbrush and Toothpaste Stand
|hblife Stainless Steel Bathroom Toothbrush Holder Toothpaste Holder Stand||1,808 Reviews||$15.99 $7.99||View on Amazon|
This is a countertop mounted toothbrush holder.
Rectangular in shape the holder offers a home for up to 4 toothbrushes and a tube of toothpaste (view on Amazon).
Measuring 4.76 x 2.36 x 3.94 inches, this holder is not all that big but ideal for what it is deigned for.
The 4 brushes sit in a 2 x 2 formation to the left hand side whilst a larger opening on the right side gives a place to store your tube of toothpaste.
The unit has 4 feet which raise it ever so slightly off the counter and there are non slip feet too. This means the base of the brush handles do not sit in moisture and any water on the brushes can run down the handle and onto the work surface below. You will not get pooling of the water at the base of the holder which is common with using a glass or something similar.
Made from stainless steel, this is going to stay looking great for many years.
Our Top 5 Picks For Best Electric Toothbrush Holders & Brush Head Storage Compartments
Buy an electric toothbrush and you will find that most of them are designed to stand upright without any need for a stand or holder.
Most do also come with a charging stand, which doubles up as a convenient place to store the brush when not in use.
Despite the above, there are some neat third party solutions that exist, that are perhaps more practical than those that come in the box with the toothbrush.
One of my biggest frustrations is that many electric toothbrushes come with multiple brush heads but no way of conveniently storing them.
For those who share a brush handle with another family member, you probably have come up with some sort of solution for storing the heads, but there are some very innovative options that the big name brush manufacturers do not make themselves.
For myself, I ran into the following situation.
Both my partner and I, have our own electric toothbrushes, I have Genius Pro 8000 whilst she has the Sonicare DiamondClean. We needed a holder to accommodate the different brush head brands. We settles on the Roch Head stand, but took a look at some of the other options listed below too.
1. Roch Head Stand – Electric Toothbrush Head Holder – Stone White
|Roch Head Stand - Electric Toothbrush Head Holder (White)||8 Reviews||$19.80||View on Amazon|
Make no mistakes about it, this is not ‘cheap’, but only when you see and hold it do you realise the quality and why it is this price (view on Amazon).
Weighing in at 0.5lbs, this is quite heavy.
Unlike many others that are very lightweight and made out of plastic, this is made out of what feels like stone, but I believe is actually some resin material.
It works with all the major brands of toothbrush heads, which is great, because if you change toothbrushes or have different brands in use within your home, you don’t need different brush head holders.
The heads hang upside down, so the excess water drips off the bristles and into the drip tray and not down the neck of the brush, like most other options.
The drip tray is carved into the stand, but there is a removable plastic tray which can be left in or removed. Personally whilst practical to keep it (just remove that to clean, not the whole unit), it’s not as premium as the rest of the unit and detracts from the finish.
Each head is appropriately spaced, so that they do not touch.
It is not a pure white finish, more of a slightly off white, you can also buy a marble option too.
Provided in the box are some 3m velcro tabs that you stick to the wall and stand to mount it in place, if you don’t want it sat on a worktop. They are ok, but I would have more confidence if the pads were larger and covered more of the back of the stand.
Solid, stylish and functional it is one of the best holders I have come across.
2. FOURCHEN Electric Toothbrush Head Holder With Electric Toothbrush Stand for Oral-B
|FOURCHEN Toothbrush Heads Holder Set Include 4 pcs Oral-B Electric Heads Cover - Head Stand for...||5 Reviews||$13.99 $8.99||View on Amazon|
Cheap and cheerful, this is made from a lightweight and basic gloss White plastic.
It does not have the quality feel of some of the other options, but I must stress the simplicity and practicality of this holder.
It is designed to sit on a countertop and provide a home for 4 brush heads and 2 brush handles (view on Amazon).
Made for Oral-B electric toothbrushes, the moulded plastic has a cutout into which you can fit the charging stand you got in the box with you toothbrush.
However at the opposite side is an additional moulded plastic holder to sit a brush on. This means you could actually sit 2 brushes on this stand.
In theory 1 brush can be charging, whilst the other isn’t.
4 little supports stick out in the centre of the stand, giving a place for you to place up to 4 brush heads.
The heads are not by default covered, but in the box are some plastic caps you can place over the heads if you like.
Personally, I think it is better to keep them exposed, so that they can air dry.
Great if your family have 1 or more Oral-B brushes in use within the same bathroom, you have a place to store the brushes and the heads.
A bit of a criticism is that the little prongs that the brush heads sit on are almost too tight for the brush head. A very secure fit, you need to hold the stand as you pull the brush head off. Perhaps I had a faulty one, but it would be nice if the heads were a little looser when on the stand to make it easier to put them on and off the stand.
3. OCTOPODIS Stainless Steel Electric Toothbrush Head Holder
|OCTOPODIS - Stainless Steel Electric Toothbrush Head Holder (Head Stand), Compatible with Oralb...||66 Reviews||$29.90 $24.90||View on Amazon|
The concept here is essentially the same as the Roch head holder listed above, but this is made from stainless steel and lighter (view on Amazon).
It holds up to 4 brush heads, upside down, so water drips off into the tray at the bottom, rather than down the neck of the brush head.
It is not brand specific, so whether you have an Oral-B, Sonicare, Waterpik, Fairywill or other brand of electric toothbrush, the heads should hang here nicely.
The heads will not touch when in place and the simplicity makes them easy to add and remove from the stand.
On the back is a large 3M adhesive pad, making it super easy to stick to a flat surface like a wall or bathroom cabinet.
Now you do not have to stick it to the wall, it is able to stand on its own.
The chromed stainless steel looks great, until the water residue builds up. It can look mucky quite quickly. A quick wipe sorts that, but for some this might be a real annoyance.
4. Anotion Oral-B Electric Toothbrush Head Holder
|Oral B Stand Anotion Electric Toothbrush Heads Holder for Braun Oral B||84 Reviews||$8.99||View on Amazon|
There is quite a bit to like about this brush head stand.
It is very similar to the official Oral-B brush head storage tray/compartment, but importantly there are a couple of adaptations that make it even more practical (view on Amazon).
At a quick glance, you would be forgiven for saying that it looks like the stand that comes provided with the Oral-B Genius Pro 8000, Pro 6000 and others.
To the right side is a tray, that holds up to 4 x Oral-B brush heads in an almost flat position.
None of the heads make contact with each other and the angle at which they sit gives just enough lift that excess moisture can drip off and collect in the plastic tray underneath.
A lid can be closed to cover the heads, but the design still allows for air to pass through and dry the heads, but the lid offers that all important extra protection from splashes.
To the left side is what looks like a charging stand for an Oral-B brush. It isn’t it is just a plastic moulding that a brush can sit on, but not be charged.
There is then another cutout, into which the original Oral-B charging stand fits.
The design is such that 2 brushes can essentially be stored on the stand. So if you and your partner for example each have an Oral-B brush and 2 brush heads each, this is ideal. Alternatively there might be the adults and kids toothbrush.
Made from plastic, it is strong and light and given what it offers is very reasonably priced.
5. Anotion Sonicare Electric Toothbrush Head Holder
|Holder for Philips Sonicare, CNVOILA Sonicare Holder for Philips Sonicare Toothbrush, Electric...||12 Reviews||$8.99||View on Amazon|
Exclusively for Sonicare electric toothbrushes, this is a brush and brush head storage solution that families in particular will appreciate.
Made from plastic it is fairly basic, but functional none the less.
It is designed to hold up to 2 brush handles and 4 brush heads, providing you fit your Sonicare charging stand within it (view on Amazon).
It is probably best to take a look at the image to really understand how this works, but you essentially have a top and bottom to the stand that come apart, to allow you to fit in 1 original Sonicare charging stand.
Once clipped back together, looking at it face on, on the left hand side, you can now see and access the charging stand, but to the right of this is a plasitc moulding onto which you can mount another Sonicare toothbrush. When mounted on the right side, the brush cannot be charged, but you can simply move it to the left if you want to charge it.
Behind these brush handle holders are 4 prongs, which a single brush head can be fitted to.
The spacing is such that when all 4 heads are in place, they do not touch.
Excess moisture can run off the head and because they are uncovered, they can air dry. They are somewhat shielded by the brush handles.
It is designed to sit on a countertop and not be wall mounted.
This will certainly work well in a family environment.
Which Oral-B and Sonicare electric toothbrushes come with brush head storage?
Depending on which electric toothbrush you buy, it may well come with some form of brush head stand in the box.
Oral-B are a bit better in my opinion at offering these, but Sonicare do on select models.
Generally speaking, the more expensive the brush, the more likely this is to be provided. However, you can always buy these as spares and retro-fit them to your existing toothbrush.
Depending on the model, does too depend on what type of brush head stand comes provided.
Some are simple stands that just hold the brush heads upright, whilst there are more premium options that actually cover the heads completely.
The Oral-B models with brush head storage:
- Pro 3000 – Brush head tray with space for 4 heads complete with lid
- Pro 5000 – Brush head tray with space for 4 heads complete with lid
- Pro 6000 – Brush head tray with space for 4 heads complete with lid
- Pro 6500 – Brush head tray with space for 4 heads complete with lid
- Pro 7000 – Brush head tray with space for 4 heads complete with lid
- Genius Pro 8000 – Brush head tray with space for 4 heads complete with lid
In all instances these brush head holders are of plastic construction and have a placement for the charging stand to fit. Fitting around the charging stand makes for a neater solution.
Either can be purchased as aftermarket accessories even if they did not come with the brush in the first place.
The Sonicare models with brush head storage:
Unlike Oral-B fewer models come with such brush head storage, but if you consider the UV toothbrush Sanitizers provided on some models this does then provide storage.
- HealthyWhite+ (HX8918/10) – Brush head stand
- FlexCare Platinum Connected (HX9192/01 and HX9193/04) – UV Sanitizer
- Sonicare DiamondClean Smart (HX9954/56) – Brush head storage compatment
The benefits of a toothbrush holder & storage compartment
This is what I believe to be the key pros to using some form of storage compartment or holder for your toothbrush.
- Neat and convenient storage solution – Keeps brushes in their place and can free up worktop/storage space, particularly if the holder is wall mounted.
- Keeps the brush upright – Most either hold or store the brushes/brush heads in an upright position to assist in removing moisture from the head and keeping it easily accessible.
- Protects against the spread of bacteria – If toothbrushes touch each other, which is common place in a family environment where all brushes are stored in a glass, the bacteria can be passed from one head to another. Whilst relatively rare in reality, it is perfectly possible that infections and disease can be passed from one brush to another. A holder often separates each brush head to avoid this contact.
- Protects against splashes and damage – Some storage options have covers or means by which the brush heads are somewhat protected from splashes of moisture or dirt and dust that they could become exposed to when left uncovered.
The drawbacks of a toothbrush holder & storage compartment
Ok so it’s not all roses with these options, some of the drawbacks are.
- Cost – This is an added expense to purchase a dedicated toothbrush holder and some of the better ones are not cheap although when the overall life is considered, most offer good value.
- Quality – Sadly not all holders are made equal and some of the cheaper ones show a lack of quality immediately or soon after purchase.
- Fiddly – Some options feel more hassle than a convenience
- Fun – Particularly for children there are options with fin designs and colours that could help make what might be considered a chore, a little more appealing.
What makes a great toothbrush or head stand for one will not for another for some reason.
